Regional Councils - About
A region consists of AEU-NT members who work in the same geographical area.
The following AEU-NT regions are established:-
· Alice Springs
· Barkly
· Katherine
· Palmerston & Rural
· Darwin
· Arnhem
Composition of Regional Councils
All AEU-NT members are eligible to attend Regional Council Meetings.
Each regional council should have a regional executive elected by the members of the region
· Regional President
· Regional Vice-President
· Regional Secretary
Regional Executive Constitution and Powers
Regional Executive which, subject to the control of AEU-NT Annual Branch Conference and the AEU-NT Branch Executive, should supervise, manage and control regional affairs.
A regional executive should consist of the regional officers as listed above and a maximum of four regional councillors.
A regional council may authorise the formation of sub-committees as it sees fit.
Regional Executive Meetings
A regional executive should meet as required; but not more than 2 months should elapse between 2 successive meetings other than between the last meeting in one year and the first meeting in the following year.
Regional meetings should be held as determined by the regional officers or upon request to the regional officers of one quarter of the region’s members.
The regional president shall preside at all regional meetings. In the absence of the regional president, the regional vice-president shall preside at the meeting, and in the absence of both the said officers, the regional executive may appoint one of its members to preside at the meeting.
If a regional executive member cannot attend a regional executive meeting, the member may appoint in writing a proxy who is a financial member of the region but is not a member of the regional executive.
Any financial member of the AEU-NT may by permission of the meeting attend and speak at a meeting of regional executive.
Notification of a Meeting
The regional secretary should give reasonable notice of regional meetings to its members. Details of date, time, venue and proposed agenda should be included on the notice which can be forwarded to all concerned via the AEU-NT office, contact the admin officers at the
AEU-NT on 8948 5399 or admin@aeunt.org.au to arrange for the notice to be circulated.
Voting at Meetings
Each member or his/her proxy is entitled to one vote at the meeting.
In the event of equality of voting, the chairperson of the meeting shall have a second or casting vote.
Regional Executive Vacancies
The position of a regional executive member shall become vacant if the holder resigns; is removed under the *AEU-NT Rules; ceases to be a member of the union or is transferred out of the region they represents.
Representation by Regional Executive
A regional executive may take up any matter concerning the members of its region only.
Limit of Power
A regional executive shall not act independently of the branch executive in regard to any matter which has been dealt with and decided by the branch executive.
Regional Council Annual General Meeting
The Regional Council Annual General Meeting should be held as soon as possible after the commencement of the school year and before 31 March. It may be adjourned as provided in Rule 51 for not more than one month. Nominations for regional council officers are called for at the AGM

10 financial members of the region or 10% of the region membership, whichever is the lesser
